Tension Control Systems
Martin Automatic’s infeed and outfeed tension control systems provide consistent tension to any web and virtually all applications. Scroll down to see our Infeed, Dancer, Festoon, MDR Rollers, and Airnertia™ solutions.
Constant Tension Infeed
- Martin’s Constant Tension Infeed/Outfeed system offers a patented inertia-compensation design for precise and consistent tension control, ensuring smooth operation and high-quality output.
- The system is equipped with a dancer and an integrated web guide to maintain optimal web alignment throughout the process.
- It can be configured as either AC motor-driven or lineshaft-driven, providing flexibility to accommodate various production setups and material handling requirements.

Inertia-Compensated Dancer
- Martin’s Inertia-Compensated Dancer absorbs tension upsets and prevents them from reaching the process.
- Web tension is adjusted and accurately maintained despite disturbances on the drive or brake side, changes in web characteristics, and various line speed settings.
- This unit, which can be free-standing or integrated, requires minimum space and is easily installed on new or existing lines. As with all Martin products, the Inertia-Compensated Dancer can be application-engineered to fit each process.

Storage Festoon
- Martin’s storage festoon, or accumulator, delivers precise tension control to the process while ensuring adequate web storage during the splice cycle, minimizing disruptions and maintaining productivity.
- Utilizing Martin’s patented inertia-compensated tension control system, it effectively isolates tension upsets from the process, preventing fluctuations that could affect product quality.
- This advanced design allows for superior web tension control, making it ideal for high-speed and precision-driven applications.

MDR Rollers
- MDR (magnetically driven roller) technology is a new approach to handling webs at lower tension levels and higher operating speeds.
- This patent-pending roller system applies a magnetic link between web transport rollers and drive system, substantially reducing or eliminating the negative impacts on a web resulting from roller inertia, bearing friction, speed change, and entrained (boundary layer) air. The result is a system that operates at significantly higher speed and lower web tension.
- MDR technology can be applied to web transport systems as well as Martin’s line of high-performance unwind systems.

Airnertia™
- Martin’s Airnertia™ technology features web transport rollers designed with a reduced moment of inertia, enabling smoother and more efficient web handling.
- This patented technology allows for a higher rate of change in web speed without requiring an increased web tension set point, helping to optimize performance and reduce material stress.
- Suitable for all process equipment utilizing idler rollers for web transport, Airnertia™ enhances control and stability in high-speed applications.
