Martin Automatic Nominated For Coveted Index 08 Award

Posted: April 07, 2008

(ROCKFORD, IL) – Martin Automatic Inc, the high-performance web handling specialist, has been recognized as a finalist for EDANA's INDEX 08 Awards. The awards are the highest accolade for the best examples of excellence and innovation in the nonwovens supply chain. Martin Automatic's MDR (magnetic driven roller) technology has been nominated for an award in the category, "Machinery - innovation in machinery of special relevance to the nonwovens industry."

Martin's new MDR technology offers an advanced solution for handling light webs at lower tension levels and higher operating speeds. It can be applied to both web transport systems and to Martin's line of high-performance unwinds.

"The continued emphasis in converting and printing today is to increase throughput by increasing process speeds," says Mike O'Hea, product manager for the MDR project. "At the same time, material basis weights and calipers continue to decrease. These lighter material structures can only run successfully at lower web tension levels, restricting the ability to reach higher speeds. These opposing trends of lower tensions and higher speeds present real challenges for splicing and web handling. We are pleased that the INDEX 08 Awards jury has recognized MDR as an effective new tool to overcome these challenges."
